This yarn is recommended for 4.5mm crochet hook. If you use to work with a tighten tension (for example if you use a 2.25/2.5mm crochet hook to work cotton yarn recommended for 2.5/3.5mm crochet hook), so you can use the 4mm size recommended. However, if you work loosely (if you use a 2mm crochet hook for a cotton yarn recommended for 2.5/3.5mm), I advise you to use a 3.5mm crochet hook to work the Wolans Amigurumi Velvet yarn.
The Wolans Amigurumi Velvet yarn is composed of a strong central thread covered with a « texture ». This sort of yarn makes magic ring beginning difficult : if you pull on the thread, the « texture » won’t slide and will lock the closing. Option N° 1 : replace magic rings by a chain beginning : ch1 + ch1, 6sc in the 2nd chain from hook ( = rd1). Option N°2 : burn the end of the beginning yarn to lock the « texture » and be able to close the magic ring (in this case, do not work the 1st round too tightly).
The Wolans Amigurumi Velvet yarn is one of the velvet yarn the easiest to work for amigurumi because you can see the worked stitches. As for any kind of yarn, darker the yarn is and less visible the stitches are. However, if you have some disturb to see the stitches, you will still able to identify them thank to the « prominence » of each stitch at the back of the work : you will find easily the hole under each stitch (the hole where you will insert your hook). The most difficult will be the beginning of each piece : the 6 first stitches are huddled on the inside of the piece (on the wrong side). To solve this problem, insert a stitch marker in the 1st stitch of the 1st round (ch2, place the stitch marker and work 6sc): like this you will find easily the 1st stitch to start the 2nd round and the rest will follow. Whatever appends, I highly recommend you to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round until you feel that you don’t need it anymore.
This yarn will forgive you seam mistakes : they will be hidden in the “texture” of the yarn. But take care to make a secure seam : tighten firmly the yarn and sew all the stitches of each piece. • Option N°1 : burn the end of the yarn and insert it in a tapestry needle. • Option N°2 : Use the crochet hook to “sew” the pieces : tighten firmly each stitch and cut/hide the end. • Option N°3 : use a thin cotton yarn with a similar color : it will be hidden in the “texture” of the Wolans Amigurumi Velvet.
